TSDMA Executive Director, Donna Personeus credits the use of social media to market the contest for the diverse national and international range of submissions. After a review of the votes from the TSDMA Website's public online survey, the Logo Selection Board narrowed the field of 52 submissions to 5 finalists. The five finalist logos chosen represent submissions from Rhode Island (Providence & Warwick), California, Indiana, and one international submission from Croatia. There was an additional vote to keep the old Thayer Street logo in the finalist voting pool rounding out the finalist pool to six. The public will once again have a chance to weigh in and vote for their favorite. The TSDMA website will post the finalist's logos and with opportunity to vote for your favorite until August 1, 2014 at 6pm. At that time, the public voting will come to an end. "Public input and community partnering during the Thayer Street Planning Study process lead us to the current improvements, "our facelift", in progress on Thayer Street today. Community involvement was a key part of the process" states Personeus. "When we decided our logo also needed a facelift to match the street, it made sense involve the public again. That was the main reasoning behind the having a logo contest, instead of hiring one designer or one firm. We wanted to open the opportunity up to the community. We, as a community, will be living with this logo for a long time to come. We want the logo that is selected, the "winner", to represent Thayer Street's history, right now and its future." The contest winner will be selected by the Logo Selection Board after a review of the total public votes count for each logo. The winning logo will be announced by the TSDMA to the public on August 6th.
