Each month we bring you news and information about happenings in Thayer Street District of Providence, RI and what you can look forward to from your Thayer Street District Management Authority (TSDMA). Stay Tuned...
In 2009, property owners representing over 60% of the value within the Thayer Street District reaffirmed their support to continue the Thayer Street District Management Authority (TSDMA).
The TSDMA was established by Thayer Street property owners and granted status to operate as a 'Business Improvement District' by the City of Providence Code of Ordinances and in accordance with RI General Law 45-59-14(b) in January 2006. As a Business Improvement District, the TSDMA oversees the management and maintenance of the district bounded from Waterman Street north to Bowen Street.
What we've been up to...
Over the years since our establishment, the district has undertaken the installation of new sidewalks, stamped crosswalks, trash cans, lighting, and trees. In 2008, the district underwent a comprehensive street and sidewalk cleaning along with the removal of graffiti in all visible locations at both street level and on the upper floors of some buildings.
In 2013, City of Providence's Department of Planning & Development worked with a consultant team which included members of the TSDMA to prepare a plan for the future of the Thayer Street corridor, identified as the area bounded by Lloyd Avenue, Hope Street, Waterman Street and the rear lot line of the parcels that face the western side of Thayer Street. The Final Thayer Street Planning Study is now available online!
Who we are...
TSDMA is governed by a Board of Directors made up of District property owners, merchants and representatives of Brown University. Day to day operations are overseen by our TSDMA Executive Director.
